Article summary

Overview of Dynamic Scheduling

Dynamic Scheduling uses Start Dates, End Dates, Durations and Predecessors to provide a forward moving schedule. Unlike Static Scheduling systems, the Projects will move forward with time if there is no activity. To accomplish this, we built the following rules into the system.

A Start Date with a Duration is set for each Task. The Start Date and the End Date will continue to move forward until the Task is started. Once a Task is started the End Date will hold constant until the Duration period has eclipsed. The End Date will then continue to move forward in time until the Task is marked completed.

By providing Predecessors and Durations for each Task, the entire Project will continue to move forward until the gating Task is completed. A project manager can adjust the Dates, Durations and Predecessors based on the requirements of a particular project.
